Gracie R. Agnew, Chairperson
Gracie R. Agnew is the University Supervisor at Longwood College. She worked as an educator for 40 years serving as a teacher, assistant principal, curriculum specialist, principal, and Director of Instruction. Although she received several awards, one of which was being named Principal of the Year for the State of Virginia, she says, “The greatest reward was the opportunity afforded me to partner with so many gifted educators to positively impact the lives of students, our greatest resource.” Gracie Agnew enjoys gardening, reading, and working jigsaw puzzles in her free time.
Beth Deatherage, Vice-Chair
Beth Deatherage is the Vice President, Director of Accounts at HD Web Studios. She has a Bachelor’s of Art from Virginia Tech and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Averett University. She has thirteen years of experience in sales and marketing. She began her career at HD Web Studio in 2010. She serves on the Martinsville Uptown promotions committee and as a board member for the Southern Piedmont Technology Council. She is married to Robert Deatherage and has one son. She also enjoys reading and eBay in her free time
Susan King Sabin, Treasurer
Susan is an Independent Contractor and the Office Manager at Law Office of Heath L. Sabin. She has been serving families since December 2010, advocating for those in need and directly assisting with childhood development for over 200 families. Over the last two years, Susan has spent time speaking at conferences and trainings for childhood education providers and families. She currently serves on the Promising Neighborhoods Advisory Committee through Smart Beginnings, along with the CHILL Board. Susan and her husband, Heath L. Sabin, run our their law office, serving the community through legal services, advocacy, and personal growth.
Charles Aaron is a native of Martinsville, VA and graduated from Martinsville High School. He attended UVA and received a BS of Science Business Administration and Economics from the UNCG. He also attended the Queens College at Oxford University in England and received his Doctor of Jurisdiction Prudence for Law from the South-Texas College of Law in Houston, TX.
He has been in the private practice of law for the past 35 years. He is a Boy Scout leader for Troop 326, has been on the Pat Hen Community College Foundation Board, Stepping Stones, past president of the Martinsville/Henry Count Bar Assoc. He is married to Susan Aaron and has 3 children. In his spare time, he enjoys sports, reading traveling and the Boy Scouts.
Ann Adkins is a retired special education teacher with 37 years at Henry County Public Schools. Ann has a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Special Education and an endorsement in Specific Learning Disabilities. Ann loves physical activities such as tennis, Zumba, yoga and walking. She enjoys participating in activities at Smith Memorial Methodist Church. Ann is also the proud mother of two wonderful adult daughters.
Matthew Brown is a Prevention Specialist/ Drug Free MHC Coordinator at Piedmont Community Services. He has worked at Piedmont since November of 2014. He has previously worked for Henry County Public Schools for 1 ½ years and Danville-Pittsylvania Community Services for 2 ½ years. Matthew Brown is a certified trainer for Youth Mental Health First Aid, assistant varsity boys basketball coach at Magna Vista High School, Minister, and Musician.
Nicole has been the orthodontic partner with David Jones at Orthodontist at Jones & DeShon Orthodontics for one year. She is a recent graduate of West Virginia University. Nicole is a member of Charity League and is enjoying getting to know more about Martinsville and Henry Co. Her hobbies include traveling and spending time at the lake.
Pat Favero, DO
Pat is a native of Collinsville, VA and attended area schools. He is president of Martinsville Family Medicine, a primary care practice, in Martinsville, VA and has been practicing medicine in Martinsville/Henry Co. for 5 years. He is a member of board for Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry Co. Dr. Favero was awarded the Distinguished Employer Aware for 2014 by the American National University. He is married to Ann and they have a daughter, Josie. He enjoys playing golf and attending Magna Vista football games as the Sports Medicine Physician.
Betsy is a native of Martinsville, Virginia and is the owner of Music Moves for Piano. She is a master teacher of piano, voice and organ and has taught Kindermusik for28 years and Music Together for 25 years. She taught music and math at Carlisle School for 23 years and new teaches piano and voice at Carlisle and her home studio. She has served as organist for several local churches over the last 25 years. Betsy is past president of Charity League, Child Abuse Prevention Team, and Piedmont Arts Assoc. She is a member of Forest Hills Presbyterian Church and serves on the Session. She resides with her husband, Jim, in Henry County, and has 4 children and 3 grandsons. Betsy enjoys quilting and tennis.
